Parish Committees and Guilds
Members of Saint Augustine’s Church are invited and encouraged to participate in the life and ministry of our parish. In the fall each year we offer a “ministry fair” at which we will invite new and existing members to join in the activities of our parish.
You may also ask to join at any time during the year by speaking with a member of the clergy or the committee chairperson.
Liturgy and Worship
The central act of our corporate life is worship at God’s altar. There are many opportunities for serving at the altar. Opportunities include serving as a member of the altar guild, ushers, acolytes, licensed lay ministers, choir, and prayer guild. Every role is vital in our worship service. If you feel called to service in worship and liturgy, please speak with a member of the clergy.
Pastoral Care
St. Augustine’s has long been a warm and caring community seeking to witness to the love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Many caring ministries exist in the parish. Prayer members are available to pray for any needs of the parish and beyond. Volunteers stand by to write encouraging notes, deliver flowers from the Sunday service, provide meals, transportation, knit prayer shawls, and to stay in touch with our shut-ins and college students away at school.
Outreach
Our mission leads us to reach out to persons and organizations beyond ourselves. In the parish, a growing number of outreach ministries are held to include the food pantry, Soup Kitchen, coat and sweater drive, Angel tree, collections for military infirmed, Blood Drive, and Lenten dinner drive.
Stewardship
As we have been blessed, so we ought to give. All that we have really belongs to God. We are the stewards. How we respond to giving our time, talent, and money for the building up of the Body of Christ, says much about what type of stewards we really are. This committee is responsible for the annual Every Member Canvass.
Youth
This committee works with the clergy to provide and carry out the best possible youth programs for the youth of the parish at the parish, convocational, diocesan and national level. The committee provides leadership for social and service functions.
Welcoming and Incorporating New Members
Serving as an extension of the clergy, this committee helps greet new families to our parish and assists in their incorporation in the life and ministry of the church.
Altar Guild
The members of the Altar Guild prepare the Altar for each service held during the week at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church. The role of the Altar Guild is as the stagehands and set designers for Our Lord’s table.
Altar Guild members for the following week meet each Saturday morning to prepare the communion, polish the brass, silver and general cleaning. As a group they are responsible for cleaning all the linens used for the services during the week.
We have super team captains who are responsible on alternating weeks to see that all goes well. If you would like to join our team please contact the church office for more information.
St. Clare’s Guild
The Women of the Church, St. Clare’s Guild, participate in the hosting of all church receptions. Their major fund raising effort is the annual bake sale. They also sponsor many activities in the church and community.
Wedding Guild
At St. Augustine’s, marriage is a sacrament. The wedding committee helps brides plan and conduct rituals that are in keeping with the worship of the church.
